Who Runs These?

Has anyone else seen the increase in the funny ONU related Twitter accounts? I may be late noticing this but I still find it rather amusing. As of last year @ONUstudent was the only humor-based ONU account I was aware of. As of today there are four that I know of: @ONUstudent, @ONUproblemz, @ONUBlackSwan and @AdaGoggles. The last one I discovered tonight while looking at my Twitter feed.

I’m not sure what the fascination is with creating these parody accounts or who has the time to run these accounts on top of their own, but I’m kind of glad these accounts were created. Like most normal people on this planet I enjoy laughing and things that are humorous. So naturally, I enjoy reading the tweets from these accounts. Grant it much of the content is what some would call “information that puts ONU in a negative light,” but for people who attend ONU the content is funny. This is because most of it is true or someone on campus has thought or experienced something similar.

Sometimes the content may be inappropriate, and something that I, as a good PR major, would never tweet, but it does provide a good chuckle. So to whoever are the account owners for those ONU Twitter handles, I thank you for providing the ONU community with laughs.

Tweet on ONU,

Jake

  1. I agree that these anonymous tweets are funny, but some times they just make me mad. I love Northern for what it is and I knew what I was getting into when I chose to come here. These twitters accounts turn into an outlet for people to complain about how much they don't like ONU. I actually responded to one particular Tweet that said "more people watched the debate than will drink this weekend." This is not Ohio State. If you wanted to go to school where the focus is more on partying, then you should have gone somewhere else. I also do not need @ONUproblemz to comment on the weather all of the time. Yes it rains in Ada... get over it! Sorry for the rant. I do enjoy these tweets when they are funny, not when they are complaints.

  2. I definitely agree with you Katie! Everyone who goes to Northern has a reason for being here. I chose ONU because I loved it, and I'm sure a lot of other people did too. The funny and sarcastic tweets about the quirks of ONU are funny, but the constant complaining has to stop.

  3. I follow these accounts and they have actually retweeted my "complaint" tweets about Northern before. While I realize I probably shouldn't have complained about my school on my personal social media account, it never hit me that they would actually retweet my tweets to the whole ONU community! Although I like to laugh at some of the tweets they post, I don't really like being the tweet they post since I am supposed to be leading a clean social media life ;) Since they last retweeted me, I have not written a negative or complaining tweet about ONU since.
